Here's what we're planning now for: Aug
10-12
- BHS Class of 1976 25th Year Reunion The children's musical will be announced in the paper, so keep your eyes open for audition information. Of course, our grants writing continues daily, as does our major donor solicitations. I hope you have been following the news. We've received some more donations, so we'll be doing a follow up for you. Please, if anyone should have any questions about this project, email right away. We'll tell you the facts - good or bad. Some parties who have never been involved in this project have made some false statements and then put it in print. It's embarrassing for them. It also confuses people which is unfair to us and the community. Also, please drive by the site. Especially tour the back of the building. If you know of potential donors, let us know right away. Remember, hard hat tours can be arranged! Thanks, Here's Hugh Reams' update: It appears I missed an update a couple of weeks ago and a lot has happened. The floor slab for the balcony seating has been placed as well as the remaining level floor slab areas on the second level. The only remaining slabs to be paced are at the monumental stair landing, the piano storage room ceiling, and for the sound and control booth floors. We released a change order to bring the masonry for the piano storage area and the control room from Phase 3 to Phase 2 in order to support these slabs and they should be installed soon. The front steps were cast and are now in use. Inside the existing school, the work is on schedule to complete before school starts. The doorway to the new building is installed and the ramp to the existing hallway elevation is in place. The new beam needed over the opening to the hallway (where the old room wall was) is in place. The slab over the old exit hallway raising it to the floor elevation has been cast and the new exterior wall blocking the opening is in place. Face brick work on that wall section should begin next week. The new exit door frame from room 156 has been installed and the opening for the one from the other room has been made in the interior block wall. The brick facing will be opened this week and the frame installed. The frames are on site for the new doors to the new storage areas off the graphics shop. We released change orders this week to install partial ductwork and electrical for the auditorium to condition and light the space while construction is stopped. The steelworkers are installing the catwalk. Once that is complete the steelwork should be about done with the exception of some changes to the load gallery necessitated by some clearance issues with the spiral staircase. The insulator came in and sprayed fireproofing under the balcony and other places where it is required. Steel stud walls and sheathing is installed along the front of the second level lobby area (black stuff visible from the road) and studs have been installed above the proscenium opening to the main seating area roof. Interior masonry continues with all interior walls for Phase 2 started. Exterior masonry walls are proceeding with facing block installation nearing completion along the north wall and in progress on the east wall. Brick installation began at the south wall's intersection with the existing building and will continue across the front of the building. The front of the building affords one of the last entry possibilities for the platform lift vehicles so it will be one of the last sections finished. Mechanical work continues with roof drain piping. The electrician is installing the conduits in the masonry walls as the walls go in and will now, with the change order, begin to install the exterior lighting as the facades are installed. Hugh Reams
