Several years ago, the construction of the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts was divided into 4 Phases. Phases 1 and 2 were fully funded and BRAVA was requested to proceed while additional public monies were secured. As previously explained, since there is not sufficient public monies we will not be proceeding with further construction until Phases 3 and 4 ($3.6M) are fully funded. We continue to receive private donations and encourage those tax-deductible donations! We have had two "million dollar opportunities" tour the facility, however, unfortunately, neither could donate at this time. (One was not permitted to release their money outside their home state.) At this time, private fund raising will continue as our elected officials pursue the return of additional tax dollars back into our community and into this project... so that all may enjoy. Should you have any questions or wish to volunteer, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via email at BowieAlumni@erols.com or BRAVA@onebridgeHome.com. Mary
Nusser The building is really starting to close in at the exterior. The site work is in production to give it a finished look. Phase 2 of the project is moving into completion. The mason is almost fully demobilized; forklifts and some remaining materials leaving the site today. The contractors take great pride in their work and all hate to see it go unfinished. Sidewalks have been placed around the north and east sides and will go in on the south before the week is out. The curbs are all in and paving starts next week. The lack of cold weather has really helped. Paving the parking area is really going to make the BHS parking surface look bad but then that's not in our budget. Bovis will have to relocate their trailer Friday in order to make room for the paving operation next week. The front doors are installed and the building was to have been locked for the first time tonight. Yes the front doors are blue, as will be all the exterior doors on the building. The inner set of front doors are to be installed next. Canopies over the new entry steps to the two BHS classrooms began today with the rear one working first. The spiral stairs to the catwalk are complete and the contractor began to install the spiral stairs between the orchestra pit and the first platform. The last segment will go from the first platform to the second platform. The piano storage room is nearing completion and will be the only completed room in the building as it will be the only one with its permanent door. The plumber is completing the last lines to support the roof top mechanical units and the sprinkler contractor is also nearing completion. The sprinkler system will not be functional during the shutdown and many of the heads are not in the current phase. Duct work continues to be installed throughout the building. The segment over the hallway being used as an entrance will be installed over the Christmas break. THE HVAC system is supposed to be complete and begin its inspection process around the middle of December. The electrician has installed most of the temporary lighting throughout the building and is focusing on the exterior lights. Hugh Reams
